About Trusted ContactsHide details

We help them name a Trusted Contact at their brokerage, and at their bank when it offers one: someone they choose, and it does not have to be us. A Trusted Contact cannot trade or see balances. At brokerage firms, FINRA(opens in a new tab), the regulator for brokerage firms, has the firm ask for one. If the brokerage suspects someone is taking advantage of a client 65 or older, it can pause a payment and reach out to that person. That is the brokerage's decision. We track every account with them, so they always know which ones have a Trusted Contact in place.

How we spot trouble and reach them

Scammers count on your parent being alone and in a hurry. We help make sure they're neither.

Their alerts reach us too.

With their permission, copies of their bank and brokerage alerts come to us. They can call or text us first, 8 AM to 8 PM ET, every day.

We call them.

If something looks wrong, we call right away and help check who is really asking.

They decide what happens next.

Next, they call their bank's fraud line to lock the accounts. On Advantage and Signature, we join them on a three-way call.

If a brokerage account is involved, the brokerage decides whether to pause the payment and calls the Trusted Contact they named. Family hears from us only with their permission.

Built to catch the scams that talk people into sending money

The Senior-Secure 12 pillars of protection. Each plan builds on the one before it.

Senior-Secure™ badge: a lighthouse ringed by icons for the 12 pillars of protection listed below.
12 pillars, one team.

Essentials

5 of 12 pillars

Core protections in every plan:

  1. Call and text screeningWe set up their phone to block known scam calls and texts. If one still gets through, they can forward it to us and we'll tell them whether it's safe.
  2. Secure vault and loginsWe help them set up a digital vault for their passwords and important documents. It's theirs, and we never see their passwords.
  3. Protection from fake tech supportWe help them check any call, pop-up or message that claims to be tech support.
  4. Credit freeze and opt-out helpWe help them freeze their credit at the three credit bureaus, and save each bank's fraud number. Together, we add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry, opt them out of pre-approved credit offers and sign them up to cut down on junk mail.
  5. Breach alerts and password helpIf their personal information shows up in a data breach, we let them know and help them change the affected passwords.

  2. Monthly family summaryWith their permission, a family member they choose gets a short summary each month.
  3. Recovery helpIf a scam gets through, we help them take the next steps right away: calling their bank, filing reports with the FTC and local police, changing passwords and watching their accounts for follow-up scams.

Recovery help

If something still gets through, they're not alone.

Advantage and Signature

Scams are built to fool careful, capable people. Tell us as soon as you can. Everyone gets our written playbook. On Advantage and Signature, we also work through it with them, one step at a time:

  1. We walk them through the next steps, in the right order.
  2. Help with the reports they file with the agencies below.
  3. Their bank: we help them contact it, and any brokerage or card company involved.
  4. Adult Protective Services, the office that looks into financial abuse: we help them report it there, if that's the right step.

Where we help them report

On Advantage and Signature, we help choose the right ones and stay on while they file.

  1. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)ic3.gov (opens in a new tab)
  2. National Elder Fraud Hotline1-833-372-8311
  3. Adult Protective ServicesYour state or county office. Find it through the Eldercare Locator at eldercare.acl.gov (opens in a new tab) or 1-800-677-1116

Their privacy and their consent

Personal details stay private.

How we handle their information

Separate business accounts, a password manager, two-step sign-in and only the information we need. We never sell it.
